About Me I have 25 years experience as a birth worker, birth keeper and 12 years experience as a massage therapist, specializing in maternity massage. My massage practice has a sub specialty in neuromuscular and fascia work for injury recovery and body contouring. When I am not helping families or fixing bodies, you can find me working my dog with scent detection or at the beach.
My Journey My birth work began a few months after my first son was born in 1998. I chose an unassisted homebirth because midwives were illegal in that state at that time. Fortunately everything went smoothly, as birth usually will if left unhindered. My second son was born at home in the water 2 years later. This time in a different state with a midwife present, providing unhindered care. After my first son was born, I began Doula work, after my second son was born, I began teaching childbirth education. A few years later, I began assisting midwives at births, now I am the homebirth midwife, serving both Palm Beach and Martin County.
Pain in childbirth? Fear drives our decisions Many women question whether they can handle the rigors of labor without pain relief medication. The fact is that labor can be very manageable and the birth can be an enjoyable experience. The key is in preparation and support. This doesn't mean it will become easy or pain free, although for some, it can be, but most women experience labor and birth as an indescribable intensity. Many women have found that utilizing the discomfort as a compass, allows them to navigate their way to a better birth. Many finding that labor is not as difficult as they thought it would be. One of the best ways to have a great birth experience is to eliminate the fear by replacing it with knowledge and confidence.
During your prenatal appointments and classes, you will learn to work with your labor and not against it. Most women find that assignments given in classes and appointments help them have easier labors.
Your Massage As a licensed massage therapist, I also value body work and the role it plays in more efficient births. That is why it is incorporated into some of the prenatal and postpartum appointments. Bodywork includes massage for relaxing the body and mind, as well as other therapeutic modalities to improve physical function, reduce pain, and improve the mind-body connection. One of the modalities I use is energy work. Energy work can be very effective in removing blockages of energy flow. I also use cupping and fascial release. Intuitively and through observation of your posture and movements, listening to any complaints of pain, I can determine which modality or modalities your body needs to function optimally. No modality will be used without your knowledge and consent.
My Style of Practice To me, traditional midwifery is practicing with as little as possible interference from the caregiver. I am an original birth keeper. This means that guidance and preparation during pregnancy helps the laboring mother to trust and allow her instinctual response to lead in her baby's birth process. It also means that it is important to utilize the skills of the caregiver only when absolutely necessary. The caregiver will monitor and guide with as little interference as possible. It is an important skill of a midwife to know when to step in and when to step back. Schedule your first appointment today! Either, email here or call today 561-789-3747

Collaboration It is important to me that in the event that I have an emergency, my clients are well cared for. I am currently collaborating with two midwives, we provide back up, consultation and assistance to one another. This allows us the benefits of a group practice while maintaining our practices privately. Layali Etayem, LM has been assisting me and has attended many births with me. Donna Blythe, CPM, LM has become a fast friend after she moved from Colorado to Florida. Donna maintains her Colorado license and is currently only assisting me until she receives her Florida license in a few weeks. Learn more about these great midwives here.
